What is Commercial Oil?
Several industries generate or use large amounts of commercial waste oil that need to be correctly disposed of and treated. Different types of waste oil produced during their processes include:
- Motor oil
- Crude oil
- Cooking oil
- Grease
Additionally, some industries require commercial oil to be transported to their locations. These include:
- Shipping
- Restaurants
- Hotels
How to Dispose of Your Commercial Waste Oil
If untreated waste oil is disposed of directly into the sewers, it can lead to blockages and eventually “fatbergs,” which are very costly and difficult to remove. Commercial waste oil disposal requires a tanker to collect the oil from the site and then transport it to an approved treatment facility where it will be made safe.
Most oils are highly flammable and must be treated with a great deal of caution. The best course of action when disposing of commercial waste oil is to contact an authorised and approved company whose staff are fully trained to handle waste oil. It is always advisable to let them manage it.
For some companies, it can be more practical to store their waste oil on site in safe tanks. These tanks can then be periodically emptied by a company like Andersons Waste Management.
Case Study for Commercial Oil Disposal
A recent case study highlighting commercial waste oil disposal involves a local fried chicken takeaway restaurant called Miss Millie’s. Any restaurant that fries as much chicken as they do will have large quantities of cooking oil that need to be taken offsite and carefully disposed of at an authorised treatment centre.
If they were to dispose of their waste oil directly into the drains onsite, they would not only eventually block their own drains but also risk being fined for not taking proper care of their commercial oil/grease. Miss Millie’s contacted us for assistance with their commercial waste oil disposal at one of their facilities in Bristol.
During opening hours, they store their commercial waste oil in secure tanks to ensure none of it goes down the drain. Once the tanks are full, they need a tanker to come and professionally empty them to dispose of the waste oil properly. Following our initial discussions to fully understand the quantity and frequency of the service required, we provided them with a price per visit for one of our tankers.
As a result, we now send a tanker every week to empty the waste oil from their tanks and invoice them based on the amount of oil collected. The waste oil is then taken to an authorised treatment facility designed to safely and compliantly dispose of the oil. Our contract with them ensures they no longer have to worry about contacting us, as it is part of our weekly schedule.
After a few weeks of successfully working with Miss Millie’s, they asked us to provide the same service for all of their restaurants in Bristol and across their Southwest areas. Additionally, they have asked us to support them with their internal and external drainage issues to prevent blockages and avoid any disruption to their business.
We are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call, and we can solve any of your liquid waste disposal problems.
